Writing this story, I set out to write something fun, but soon realized I didn’t know how to write a fun story. Instead, I decided to write a noir/scifi/romance story that might (hopefully) be funny in spite of itself. So, there’s a cat, a lot of dogs, an alien invasion force, AND a Roomba who isn’t really a Roomba at all…
