Writerly update: I’m on Patreon & at Curious Fictions

Many writers are jumping on the Patreon wagon right now, and no surprise: Patreon is changing things around on May 7th, and a lot of people want to get in on the sweeter creator deal available right now.

I’m taking the plunge too. I now have a Patreon page. There are five tiers, and I’m offering various rewards at the different levels. As long as you’re in at the $1 level, you will get access to my new-fangled short fiction roundup called “My Weekly 5”. I will share five story recommendations every week (usually Mondays). These might be new stories or old stories and they will mostly be available to read free online.

Other rewards include a monthly book-recommendation, an extended audio-version of the short fiction roundup from my blog, and more.

If you are not familiar with Patreon, it’s a platform for creators of different kinds to share exclusive content with supporters, AKA patrons. Patrons sign up to give a certain amount per month (in my case) from $1 and up (sort of like a subscription), and depending on their level of support, they get access to different tiers (levels) of rewards.

I use it myself to support various zines, writers, and other creators. It’s a crowded marketplace right now, and I’m well aware of that. Not everyone can commit to a monthly subscription and I totally get it. At this point, I’m putting my toes in the water and I’ll see what happens.

Curious Fictions is another new-ish platform for writers and readers, and I really love the interface and the features. It’s not a Patreon clone, but it does feature a subscription option.

If you’d rather hang out with me at Curious Fictions, I will be posting the My Weekly 5 roundup and my monthly book recommendations there too, for subscribers.

Occasionally, I will also be sharing some of my short stories exclusively on Patreon and Curious Fictions for patrons and subscribers.
